Tips and Tricks
On this page I put those tips and tricks together that don't fit somewhere else but are worth to be mentioned.
There's more information in the forum.
- Minimize AOMrecord and display it on the taskbar
If you minimize AOMrecord by clicking on the _ in its title bar, it will be displayed as a symbol on the task bar. So it can run in the background without occupying room somewhere else. If you right click on its symbol, it shows a menu with the most important functions. You get information about the currently playing song in a tip window that is displayed when you move the mouse arrow over this symbol (of course only if this information is available). - Reduce AOMrecord on the desktop
You can display AOMrecord in a space saving way by double clicking its title bar or clicking on the maximize symbol on its title bar. Doing this again displays AOMrecord in its normal size again.
- Quick recording
Sometimes you hear a song that you like to record immediately. For this you could run AOMrecord in the background. To record the currently playing song you right click on AOMrecord's symbol on the taskbar an select Quick recording. AOMrecord will record this single song and stay in the background, waiting for your next instruction.
- Equalizer and tone controls
should be disabled or set to their neutral position while you record. If they are not, their settings will changed on the next playback again and accumulate each other. This is probably not what you expect from a high fidelity playback.
- Inspection of recordings
can be done very easy if you open the folder where the sound files reside in an explorer window. If you double click the file to inspect, your default player plays this song. If you want to explore the files in the sequence you recorded them, you can sort them by date. This can be done by clicking on Changed on on the explorer's file title.
- Optimize pause recognition volume
AOMrecord determines the amplitude below that it assumes silence with the value of Max. silence volume on the tab Pause Recognition Therefore it is very important that this value is adjusted to its optimum. You can use the automatic on the tab Audio devices or do it this way:
On the histogram (Recording level statistics for 10 seconds) on the tab Audio devices observe the highest value that is displayed during a pause. To make things easier you can produce an artificial pause by switching playback off. Enter a value that is 10 to 30% higher than the value that you observed.
Note:
It is very important that all connectors are sitting properly and that you don't use low quality cables to ensure that no external distortions can be inserted into the audio signal.
